Help Help Look What Mommi Did!

Goodness! Humans can be so.... trying!

Look what Mommi did to me!

I'm "wedged" under here!

She put that on me before she and Mommy made the bed.  I should report them to the Kitty Kouncil.  But no... I don't want them in trouble, I guess I will put up with their antics... for now!

A Different Note:

Our local stores don't have my Sprong Spools that the Mommies know of. So Mommy wrote to them.  They responded back and they say PetCo should have them. But so far they have other toys. But we will keep a lookout -- but in the meantime they will send Mommy a new spool for me!  See...

After Mommy emailed them through their site, saying how awesome I think my favorite toy is. Their response was: Thank you for your email, we appreciate your feedback. We are happy to hear that your cat enjoys our Sprong toys. I am trying to locate the toy you mentioned in the email you sent us. You stated it was red Sprong spool toy? If you can, please send me a picture? so, that I can refer you to a store that carries them.

Then Mommy said
Thank you so much for your help. It really is her most favorite toy. I have attached 3 photos. I hope they are good enough. Please remember as it is her favorite it has sustained some structural damage...

As you can see my sharp teethies have done "structural damage" to this puny spool!

 Mwhaa ah ah

Victory is MINE!

Then the nice representative said
Thank you for the pictures. You will find those at your local Petco stores. If they are currently out, they will be back in stock soon. I have one here that I can mail you, please send me your address for delivery?

So Mommy gave our info an ensured her that they would keep an eye out for the spools to be back in stock -- we were afraid it was discontinued.... If anyone has any spare Sprong Spools, feel free to send them my way!!!!  I love "Red Thing"  --  that is what we call my spool.

I'm Still Here!

Me and Brother on the Kitty Kondo
Hello everyone!

If you are still following me -- I have not fallen from the face of the Broochverse!

It is simply a case of much chaos in my Mommies' lives and also my own.  My last post was from my Gotchya Day in July.

The rundown of issues since my last post:
  • Plumbing problems for the Mommies
  • Garage door's spring broke, needed replacement and have it installed
  • Power outage - had to wait for the men to come, then THEY had to wait for another department to come to fix the trees then the power guys were able to fix the problem
  • Grandma broke her foot - ouchies - so that meant a lot of vet appointments for Grandma at awkward times
  • At Mommi's work, Mommy helped her with various event activities to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF)
  • Then I got an ear and eye infection - as you know I still have that itchy issue on my back legs, so my vet gave me steroids to help with the itchies along with the meds needed for my ear and eyes.  The steroids decided to give my naturally occurring bacterias in my GI a boost.  This then gave me a stomach infection which means I had really, really, REALLY bad stinky number threes :-'( until Mommy and Grandma took me to Dr. Mary and she was able to give me probiotics and antidiarrheals then after about a day and half or so it started to clear up. Such relief I tell you what!
  • Then Mommi got her own GI issues -- I don't think it was what I had.  It was "going around the office" WHY do you hoomans share this!
  • And finally there was an emergency with the car tires that they had to get replaced all of a sudden after getting a large screw wedged in
And this is all that I can remember, if I left anything out I am sure Murphy and His Laws won't mind.

Brooch's Gotchya Day!

It's my first Gotchya Day!!

On July 20, 2012 the Mommies brought me home from an awful home where we discovered I was 10 weeks old (looked 5 weeks) I only weighed a little over a pound!  And my cat mother's family were feeding me adult food (suspected possibility of dog food too). It took awhile for my little GI track to get straightened out with Mommies' TLC and proper nutrition.  My birthday is actually May 14, 2012.

See my kitten pictures...

I now am over a year and about 9 pounds -- I am still petite, but that is also due to the Russian Blue heritage.

Not that we can forget how I currently look.... but here we go....

Happy Gotchya Day - Book

My Big Brother, Book was Gotchya'd 9 days before me.

He was originally named "Fessy" (yuck) then the Mommies renamed him "Dasvidaniya" (transliterated Russian for "until we meet again"  daa-svee-daan-eeyaa) then they thought they were not going to be able to keep him, then decided that "Yes...Yes we can... we can make it through this." and re-renamed him "Book" so that his fresh start would have no bad connotations; coincidentally the same day they got me!

They chose to use date they got him minus 3 years cuz owner didn't know real date.  He had been in 5 previous homes.AND he was only 3 years old! :-(

The Mommies found him, like they found me... via Craigslist. As you just read, the Mommies had some rocky times for those 9 days -- but when he saw me, he saw a cute kitten to father/brother over!!  I helped him to start on the path of the Less Skitterish.

If you want to learn a little more about Book, read here.

And a current picture of my dear ol' brother...

Update: Prozac and Me

Greetings all

The Prozac thing has come to an end. Although I thought they were tasty, I agree with The Mommies that the effects were not very good.

We have come to the conclusion that I am just a talkative cat -- in a different way than either Mommi/y ever had to deal with with a previous brother/sister.

Doctor Rich and Doctor Mary both hate to put cats on Prozac for the very reason we all hated it. They have a kitty that needs to be on it as it actually helps that kitty's Big Issue, although the Prozac makes him more affectionate and less nervous so he doesn't just pee on everything.

Before Prozac I was fearless and graceful and affectionate to the point of laying on one of the Mommies, and yes annoying....

During Prozac I was skitterish (common side effect) and not-so-graceful, and not nearly as affectionate (which made the Mommies sad -- but I didn't mean to, I just wasn't "feeling it") and annoying in a not so enjoyable way.

Post Prozac -- I am regaining my fearlessness -- Mommi commented the other day as she shook out a trash bag that I did not get all skitterish and run off! Yes point to Brooch!!!  I am regaining my gracefullness -- one cannot be prideful in their cathood without grace... and I am back to being affectionate -- sometimes to a needy degree, but the Mommies are happy that they have the affection back... my annoying self is back to an enjoyable degree -- I still cry out ... but the Mommies are trying to treat it with conversation rather than to tell me to shush.

The Mommies have taken many pictures and I've got something big that is new I want to share ... but since Mommi has to be home to have her computer open for me to work... sigh.... and she gets busy sometimes ... sigh.... what is ....sigh... a kitty to do?? ...le sigh....  (I am hoping if I "sigh" enough that Mommi might let me post regular again -- I mouse you all!!)

Screaming and Prozac

Hello there, Mommy here... hijacking the baby's blog for a full update, again...

Ok, so you all know how Brooch had that nasty little infection on her legs... well it had gotten worse in February, right around the time our vacation. In fact, we actually took her to the vet on one of the first days of the vacation. Well anyway, they started her on a new med for her legs at the time and both us mommies were home along with grandma for what worked out to be 10 days in a row. With no real plans it was just us at home with a sick baby, giving her a TON of uninterrupted affection.

Problem was Mommi and Grandma had to go back to work. Shortly thereafter the screaming started. Brooch would scream (you know the one that a baby - of any species - makes to let Mama know they need something) near constantly. It took a while, but the pieces started to fall into place. When it was just me and Brooch and Book at home, Brooch would scream until I went to her, picked her up and paced with her, holding her tight and soothing her. If it was Grandma home with us, Brooch screamed less... that is, as long as Grandma's door was open or Brooch was sitting & screaming in the hall to the Mommies' room or by the door that leads into the garage (the primary door used to get in or out the house). And if both Mommies were home Brooch would sit in the area between our locations (if we happened to be in separate rooms) and scream. She was happiest if we were in the same room, but she'd still go to Grandma's door and scream. But, if we were all home, Brooch was mostly quiet.

So you can see where this is heading, I'm sure....

Technically calcium pills from "dfanton" at SXC
On May 21, 2013, I get back from my dental check up... Brooch is really screaming, but she also keeps shaking her head and rubbing her left ear, and she's running from me so I can't pick her up. I call the vet. We get into see Dr Mary. They do an ear culture and find that she has a slight bacterial infection - so we get drops. When I explain Brooch's behavior to Dr Mary she says she noticed in Brooch's file where her husband, Dr Rich, made notes about Brooch's screaming and that he suggested to try calming treats and spray first. But after nearly a month, that wasn't working, she suggested a low dosage of Prozac. She thinks that Brooch suffers from separation anxiety and maybe some mild general anxiety. (I do remember reading that Russian Blues are VERY family oriented - that get very attached to their humans and are leery of strangers. Also, it might be wise to note that Book and Brooch are very close. And though he is getting braver and more self assured because of her, she does seem to have maybe picked up a little of his skittish traits. He doesn't bully her at all though, they are both very affectionate with each other and share very well.)
So, it has been 15 days and we only missed one pill so far. She's just ending what would be the adjustment period for the new medication. So far, it seems to be helping some. She doesn't scream nearly as often. She does seem a bit jumpy, but if that continues I will talk to Dr Mary again and see if we need to pull back on the dosage. We shall see, and we will keep everyone posted.

Mommi here...

And I have to try to adjust to her, I guess, growing up.  See... after working 8-10 hrs a day, when we get home there's only a couple hrs to work with with family life -- so I'm remembering quiet vividly when she used to crawl up on me to settle in on my chest whilst I was sitting in a chair ... her letting me pick her up and just hold her for a while (now it's like she hates to be up, she immediately starts to try to get down. Where before she'd last a few minutes)  But I have to remember... she's no longer a kitten and I am not able to forge a tactile relationship with her very well because most of the day I am at work :-(  And as far as my memory knows... it seems like this "contact rejection" started near Prozac introduction - so part of me wants to blame that (it's easier than the grow up thing or my working).

Not Cool Mommi, Not Cool at All...

Take a look at the picture below...
Where did it go????

Do you see what I saw?

Can you see it at all?

NO...

You wanna know why?

Because Mommi has an evil streak!!!!  She was letting me chase the orange light that the flashy box makes when it's trying to focus.... but then she finished taking the picture, which made the cool orange light go away!!!!  Now I look like a Krazy Kitty!

oooooh Mommi.....  (shaking paw at her behind her back... I am not that so krazy that I'd let her see me.... she might take a picture of me doing that too!)

Poor Mommy

Mommy and Mommi came home from being out yesterday for 3.5 hours and when they came home Mommi held me and then passed me onto Mommy for more cuddles.  Nothing unusual there.  But Mommy had a bottle of water. OK nothing unusual about her having a drink.  But it didn't smell right when I was investigating it for her.

Mommy was a little teeter-tottery in her walking and Mommi and Grandma was helping her along to the bedroom.  Mommy laid down.  After a little while I came back in, walk up onto Mommi's chest and investigated.  Something isn't right.  Her smell is off. I smell her chin, her mouth.... hmmm.  I went back down to curl up between her legs as she went to sleep.

Mommi kept checking on  her and fixing things in the kitchen -- making it difficult to keep track of the two of them.  In between that Mommi was on the computer (she took off work yesterday and today). When one of my house investigations came to an end, I ran back up to Mommy, smelled her face again.  Still not right.  So I laid on her chest as she slept.  My Mommy needs protecting.  Something is not 100%.

As the day turned to afternoon and then evening, she started to smell better.  I became less worried.  But I still didn't keep her out of my sight.  And I didn't complain too much, Mommy was able to feed us on our basic schedule without a fuss. :-)

We shall see how today unfolds for Mommy.  Although so far she seems fine.

MY BIRFDAY!

My Birthday was yesterday too.  The Mommies mostly said how I'd grown and Mommy still things I am too small -- she is used to bigger cats, Mommi says.  Mommy says she spoils us enough and is on our every whim every day to try to do something super duper special for our birthdays.  But she did print out pix of me through the last several months and my have I grown.  I am adorable!

Mommy's note:
Mommi got 5 teeth pulled yesterday (#s 3, 8, 9, 14, & 15 - she already had #s 7&8 removed and over the years 8 others have been pulled).  Most times she does not use anything but the local stuff, but for 5 teeth Doc put her under the sleep sedation (which is what happens to me EACH time I have even 1 tooth pulled because of my anxiety and low pain tolerance). Plus she can only take the antibiotic -  no pain killers since they would put her to sleep. This is the 2nd time she had ever been put under; the last time was nearly 7-10 years ago and she was practically in a coma for the day of and second day of her recovery, even vomited on the ride home.  Poor baby.  But this time no such issue on the ride home and she only slept solidly (because of the meds she was coming off of ) for a few hours.  At this point still, if you lay her down she'll quickly go back to sleep, but she isn't "forced" to because of the meds.  She is doing much better this time round.  :-)

Just a string attached

Hello All
Sorry it's been a while since my last post. Between getting into things, aggravating the Mommies, and trying to"help" Mommy/i with some projects... well I got side tracked.

The Mommies have bought new desks and shelving units.  Higher quality that the typical stuff bought at Walmart. They still have to put it together -- I help out a lot with that!

But during some down time my brother and me discovered the blissful joy of just String On A Stick.  This delight used to have a toy at the end, but my vigorous hunting technique soon saw it to its demise.

Book, my dear sweet brother, Book, rarely plays with ANY toys.  But for SOAS... whoah baby! He gets up from a rest to come by and play with SOAS and me....

Sometimes Book can look downright furrocious... I'm so proud of my big brother!

Wanna see the smackdown of the bedside?  The Mommies say to ignore the mess, it was while they were in the middle of moving around a bunch of things.

We were having fun... I was having fun and told him it was fun too... so it counts as a "we."

Goina Go Camping!

The Mommies are letting me go camping!!!
They read the information on Friday and said I could go. The camping trip which will begin on March 17th and end on March 20th!
The info: http://onespoiledcat.wordpress.com/2013/03/07/the-camping-trip/

The Catch: I have to have chaperones.  I said I needed servants.  The Mommies found Friendly Ferret's Little Furriends Services.  This company employes ferrets, mice, hamsters, rats, guinea pigs, and so on... they even have a lizard division due to open in the summer. They worked with one of the supervisors, Freddy Ferret, and got me a crew.  Now the deal is that they will help me carry things and keep my campsite clean and the ferret in my crew will always have me in eyesight, so in case anything happens, he can save me.  Oh, and I cannot chase them.  Neither can anyone else.  Besides, if you try to taste them, they taste bad.  They say they wear a repellant. It tastes NASTY. And everyone will report to the Mommies.

I have 6 little guys and a ferret named George.
I think the little ones are mice: Carrington, Ivan, Guy, Rhys, Lennie and Sara

I have everything ready.... I'm going to send my picture in of me being ready to go... wanna see it? It will probably be used on Sammy's site.

I think I have everything ready from toys to catnip to treats to the tent to a space saved in case I am on meds still.  If I am George said he'll help me put it on.

Vengeance and Cream

My Spot -- this morning after post-cream-playtime

Sorry I have slacked off a bit. I have been a busy girl and of course Mommi's taken some pix of it. But we'll get to my tales as time goes on (or we won't) it depends if I forget or not ;-)

So Monday I had to go back to the vet.  My leg spots were not getting better, in fact they came back with a vengeance on me.  So Mommy made the appointment.

Doc said that the owie acts a little like ringworm, even the reacting poorly to the Prednisone. So... he's running a test. He thinks its a bacterial infection; but we won't know for certain until the results come in.

Meanwhile I have some cream that Mommy puts on me while Mommi holds me down for her. The vet gave Mommy an e-collar for me to wear.  Oh My Cod! This thing is horrible. I am technically too small for this smallest size they had plus I kept taking it off of myself.  The Mommies tried like three times to make it work - but after I viciously hissed and attacked them, they decided to stop torturing me and instead do something better.

PLAY!

That's right they play with me for 10-20 minutes after application so that the cream has time to soak in.  THEN I can finally clean it off.  We compromised.

Finally!

This feels like a Mischievous Monday...

Picture from 02-21-13 (Remember I will be having a few posts being placed late, because Mommi is lazy and doesn't take the pix off the flashy box in a timely fashion)

It's only been about forever since I have been trying to get up onto Grandma's curio cabinet.
Every time the Mommies would catch me on top of the entertainment system and as I was going across they'd take me down. Again and again this would happen. Then the other day they cleared off the majority of stuff from the top of the living room bureau we have.  While they weren't looking I took my chance and jumped to the curio!

The Mommies saw me and didn't yell. They sighed and remembered that Russian Blues enjoy climbing up high. And since I am part RB... You can't tell us we can't go up. I am very purrsistant about it; I imagine other Russian Blues are too.

Yippee! THIS is the highest place ...yet... I have found in the house.

My Food Coma

As most of you know, I am a pushy Czarina Princess Daughter.

If the Mommies are eating something, I try to get into the action,  not politely, but in-your-face.  The only time they are REALLY mean is when they have something called "fast food."

But that's okay... I gets to steal veggies and meat.

NOTE: for a while my posts will be using dated pix ... Mommi's lazy and gets me my pictures LATE! humph! It's a shame that she keeps royalty waiting.

My Food Coma occurred on 02-18-13... this is how it happened

First Mommy fixed Root Beer Piggy-Piggy... um pork loin to those that don't call meet by their true name.  Which means she cooks the Piggy-Piggy in the crock pot with just Root Beer and Salt. Mommy would like to give props to romance author Joyee Flynn for putting the delicious idea in two of her stories.  So I ate a lot of Piggy-Piggy, the Mommies say it was a quarter of a Pig -- but I think they exaggerate. But still they had some more delicious fare...

Mommi fixed herself  us a salad made of blanched broccoli, avocado, and snap peas, plain greek yogurt and a dab of mayo --  all mixed up.  I HAD to taste it for safety before Mommi tried it!  It is a tough job but someone had to lick it to be sure.

I  think the Mommies have an odd sense of humor - pirate bowl ?! Oy!

Then I noticed they had Whip Cream (ReddiWhip). Mommy put some on the table for me. See the video...

After that I washed my face and laid down for a 3-hour nap. Or as the Mommies say, a Food Coma cuz nothing roused me from it until I was done.

NOTE: this is NOT normal.  The Mommies want you to know that they normally do NOT let me become a... piggy like this.

Vet Visit (02-14-13) Outcome

Hi everyone, Mommy here.

Just helping Mommi and Brooch out with the details of our doctor visit. So, when we got there Brooch was weighed and is 8.6 pounds now. She is healthy other than the issue with her leg(s). When Doc looked at her, he saw some scaly/scab like areas on her legs. They are nowhere else, so he strongly believes that his initial thought is correct. When she was in last time they noticed a slight staph infection. We assumed that with the Prednizone taking down the swelling, itch and overall irritation that she would stop her licking and the minimal infection would clear itself up. This is not the case. All the Prednizone did was mask the symptoms for a short while, and now she has a more serious (but in no way life threatening) infection. So, Doc gave her a shot of antibiotics that will work though her system for 2 weeks. It should clear up any infection remaining. He also put her back on the Prednizone - on a slightly higher dosage. This will help her with the overall irritation of the infection sight. If she will stop aggressively cleaning it, with the help of the antibiotics it should clear up completely. But she has to leave it alone to heal, he said worst case we would need to get her an E Collar. (Hopefully it will not come to that - she would be very UNhappy.... and Mommi would never stop laughing.)

Anyway, she has no urinating issues, doesn't over-groom any other area of her body and has no other major behavioral issues, plus she is less than a year old with no MAJOR traumas in her past, so Doc has ruled out a need for Prozac. Our baby is as sane as any cat-parent can ever hope their purrbaby to be.

Also, Doc has ruled out food allergies. Generally, these present with several lesions, bald spots and overall itchiness. And not restricted to one area on the back of each leg, where there was an obvious wound a month ago. (The right leg has an estimated pinky length area that is the width of her tongue and the left leg now has a small fingertip size area.)

Overall she should be fully healed soon. If not we may need to try a different antibiotic or different treatment course, but I have COMPLETE faith in our Doc. He is a good man who cares deeply about animals. (Doc teared up and said a very short blessing for our last baby, Kostmeyer, when it came time to have him euthanized because of his liver and kidney failure.)

Cute anecdote about our visit: Brooch is very vocal in her displeasure at the doctor's office. She will hiss anytime they try to handle her or check her or give her a shot or come within arms reach of her. So far she has never lashed out, only hissed. Well, this last time was no different. Doc was trying to look at her legs and she got all hissy and he laughed at her, patted the top of her head and said, "Sorry, but I am really NOT afraid of you." We all laughed and she slunk up to my belly and tried to ignore us not taking her hiss seriously. Poor little kitty.

Brooch can tell you all about the terrifying ride to the vet ...

Oh. My. Cod!

Normally I do not mind trips to the vet.  No biggie. The mommies put me in the box to get in the car. The Mommies tie themselves to the seats (weird). Then I get to come out of the box so I can view what's going on, or else attempt to destroy the box and hurt myself.  But THIS time there was thunderbooms and rain and sticks running across the big front car window.  Scary stuff.  So I nearly gutted Mommi in a (failed) attempt to get to the back seat.   Mommy drove back into the garage.  Got Book's box (unlike mine is made of plastic and metal; mine's canvas, mesh and a zipper.) They put me in Book's Box.  It was okay for like a minute.  Then I realized I was still in a box.  I mean it was a box-box. Not a play box that turns into neat things...but a box.  A trap.  So I tried to claw my way free and freak out in the open.

The Mommies ended up pulling over on the side of the road. Then Mommi crawled to the back seat and Mommy handed me to her. Mommi found their discarded sweaters left in the car from a couple weeks ago.  Mommy started to drive again. Mommi put the sweaters over the box. I could see her.  And it was dark and I couldn't see all the scary stuff much any more.  I was okay for a while.  Then I started to freak again as I heard more big trucks, more rain, more I dunnos.

Then Mommi pulled me out of the box (phew!) and placed me on her chest with Mommy's sweater cocooned around me and tucked under her chin. One hand supported me while the other was in with me petting me.  Periodically Mommi kissed me and told me all was alright (did she not hear these scary things that weren't in the other rides?) and even sang a little bit.

Finally the longest ride to the vet ended and I was placed back in the box for the carry over into the vet's office.  Good thing too, cuz there was scary construction around!

It was still rainy stormy when we left. So on Mommi's chest and cocooned in the same sweater I went.  Only I got brave and talked Mommi into letting me have my head poke out near the last half of the ride back home.  While we drove home Mommy put on the comforting sounds of Sirius XM's Octane channel.

P.S. I decided it's a little weird having the Mommies and Book hijacking my blog. But it is also comforting.  At least they know that I am okay.  Besides... they say that they know when I have been on the computer because they see my clawprints as I clackety-clack away on the keyboard. At least they now know for certain I do not have a Facebook account yet.

2-14-13 Vet Day (Before Visit)

Mommi here. Hijacking the blog a bit.

Happy Valentines Day to everyone and their Honeys. For all the Kitties and other Furbabies: WE LOVE YOU TOO! Love to all, ((hugs)), ((pets)), and {{purrs}} to you too!

Today we take Brooch to the Vet. Doc will check her out. Run some tests. See what's up.  For those that did not see my and Mommy's response to Mommy Trish the other day on the the Bald Spot and Pro Zack post... here it is...

FEB 11, 2013: Brooch was on Prednisone. It seemed that she either got stabbed by part of the Xmas tree or she got overzealous with a bite which prompted the over-grooming. As we noticed it only AFTER we saw a bald spot - it was going on (seriously) for quite some time.

Doc just called and is uncomfortable going straight to Prozac. Especially since she is not a year old yet, she should not have such psychological issues this young and since she shows no other issues like urinating or anything, it is not likely she needs Prozac. Could have a deeper or more serious infection, we'll put her back on Prednisone until we see him on Thursday (he kept saying he was being lazy to say Prozac first (from her last visit when she was prescribed the Prednisone) - but he will go through all the possibilities first.) But she could also have a food allergy. It could also be ringworm. It is not likely, but if it comes to it - then it might come to Prozac.

He is a great Doc, who truly cares for the animals. He will not run us on wild goose chases, but he will be through. It may take a few months but we will figure it out.

Mommi and Brooch are not always good at posting all the info in the initial posts concerning vets - so it may sound wonky when we talk about vet visits. This comment was mostly composed by Mommy that filled in the details. Cause Mommy does all the vet visits and calls :-)

Sorry about any current/future confusion from Mommi / Brooch

I plan to have Mommy write the follow up on this Vet Visit.

Bald Spot and Pro Zack

The Mommies are worried.  As I was taking the meds for my issue on my leg (post here) things were looking better, but as I was on the weening off stage and afterwards. Last "special treat" was on Feb 3. I started back again on the leg.  It seems that this hair licking off has become a habit.  I also figured the other leg should match. So I started to obsess about that.

The Mommies are going to try to get the monies together to take me back to the vet.  They're afeared that they accidentally waited to long for the first appointment and it now became a habit.  Something about Pro Zack.  What will a Zack do to me, is he so great that he really is a Pro at whatever he does?

Sweet Sunday

Hello World.

Still here... The Mommies brought home stuff called "candy" that I had to investigate.

When they were able to open some of it with their poseybill thumbs, and let me sniff it ... how disappointing!  I thought candy was supposed to smell good! It was not even enticing enough to give a curious lick!

Furgone

Hi. Book here. I'm temporarily hi-jacking my sister's blog to tell you about something that happened to me...

Ok, so there I am just relaxing in my little blue bed when Mommy pulls out the crate. I try to get away, I do, but Mommy is fast. She puts me in the box and I don't fight too much, but I am telling her how much I DO NOT want to be in it. But is she listening, no, she's telling me that "it's alright" and "I'll be right back". Then I hear her feeding Brooch. Do you believe that!? Here I am in the box - that can only mean a new home or the vet - though I was promised by Mommy several times that she would never give me up and Mommi is always saying "we are your forever home." so that means (gasp) vet - and Mommy is feeding Sister without me.

Mommy is carrying my box, holding the bottom, so I feel more secure, and Brooch is sitting by the garage door, staring at us. "It's ok, Baby. We'll be back soon." I hear Mommy tell her as we walk into the garage. So, we get into the car and Mommy places me in the front seat, facing her - she always puts her fingers in my cage so I can rub them, isn't that nice? Then Mommy re-opens the door to the house and tells Brooch, again, that we will be back soon. Then Mommy gets in the car and open the noisy door to the big scary world and starts to back out. Then, Mommy makes the car talk and it sounds like Mommi - weird!? - but the Mommies talk and Mommy is saying that we are on our way to the vet, but that she's worried because she just realized that Brooch has never been left alone before. Mommi is trying to tell her not to worry, Brooch will probably just sleep the time away. Mommy says she's thinking of going back and bringing Brooch along with us. Now at this point, I'm thinking two things: first, if we leave Brooch behind, there may not be a home to come back to (since you read about her, I'm sure you'll agree - my sister puts the CRAZY in cat crazies) and second that I like Mommy's idea, with one little change, we bring Brooch, but I stay at home. She can have done whatever it is they are planning for me. But, by now the Mommies have decided that it will just be me and Mommy going to the vet. Bummer.

via sxc user: marielisam
So, on our way, there are big scary trucks and all sorts of noises and the sun is shining into my cage and Mommy is telling me that it all alright, there's no reason to be afraid, she loves me and we'll be back home soon. I think she's fibbing on that last one, we haven't even gotten to the vet yet.

So we get to the vet and they take us right in - to a room even Mommy has never been in before. Mommy and the Lady there start talking and Mommy takes me out of my box - and by that I mean Mommy takes my whole box apart - right from around me - do you believe that? And the Lady looks at me and says, "He's a boy right?" and I'm thinking "Ouch, come on. I'm the picture of masculinity." But Mommy is saying, "Yes and his name is Book." and the Lady picks me up and says, "He has such beautiful eyes." This, we already knew, of course I have beautiful eyes, all of me is beautiful.

So, I'm on this table and the Lady puts this leash around my neck and under one leg, so I don't try to run. And I'm thinking, "Don't worry. I never run. Ok, so sometimes I'll jog to get away, but run. I think not." Anyway, the Lady pets me a few times with this weird buzzing thing as Mommy kneels down and keeps petting my face. They are both cooing at me. So then it starts. The Lady tells Mommy, "it won't be pretty, we're not going to make any fashion statements". Mommy says "that's fine". Now, I'm worried. And then the Lady starts shaving off my fur. I just sit there . The Lady is praising me, "Oh, he's such a good cat." and "Usually cats won't let me do (this or that)" and "Cats usually hate when you touch their belly, and back legs." In fact, I am so good the Lady takes the leash off me all together. But, Mommy is standing there, comforting me and helping the Lady hold me where she needs me, and telling the Lady, "Yeah, he is a good boy. A little skitterish, but very laid back and totally nonaggressive. He's very sweet tempered." I'm good through all of it, even when the Lady holds me by my scruff to stand me on my back legs to shave my belly. Only when she gets to my back right leg, where I have my biggest mats and am the most uncomfortable, do I fuss, and then all I did was try to wiggle my head into Mommy's belly. They laughed and aww-ed, and Mommy petted me and said it was ok, we were almost done. And then we were. We were done and the Lady brushed over my lack of fur one last time, then cleaned my ears with some wet, smelly stuff and said I could go back in my box. Mommy put me there and re-built it around me. Then, we paid and left to go home. Even if she was the one to take me there I still nuzzled Mommy's fingers on the way home.

So, we get in the house and Mommy puts my box on the floor and opens the gate, Brooch was waiting for us and came over to see me, and just as I walk out, Brooch arches her back and hisses at me - like she didn't know who I was. Since she made fun of my fur-cut, I jogged to the bedroom and hid under the bed. I heard Mommy tell Brooch not to hiss at me, but she was smiling when she said it (no wonder they don't have human kids!). Mommy comes in the bedroom a few minutes later and I slink out from under the bed and go to the food bowl, Mommy sits on the bed to watch, as Brooch comes over to me. She's sniffing my tail, then my back leg, then she walks away - I guess she's ok with my new look after all. So, I'm done munching and jump up on the bed next to Mommy. Then Brooch jumps up. She starts sniffing me again and when gets to my ear she pulls away and makes a face the Mommies call stink-face. Mommy laughs and says, "then don't smell it" - which is what they always say. Brooch, smells again anyway, and I flick my ear and she sniffs my face and then licks it a few times. Excellent, Sister has accepted me back into the family fold.

Only one last thing to wait for: Mommi to laugh at me. I was warned. I was promised. I was laughed at the moment Mommi saw me. She was loud and she didn't care. "You look funny." That's what my Mommi said to me. And then she took a ton of flashy-box pictures. After a little while, Mommy was still calling me her "beautiful boy", Mommi was saying now I looked "ruggedly handsome" (though she kinda laughed while she said it) and Grandma said, though I looked raggedy and like I had rabbit fur, that I am still handsome.

And the final note, the best part: I actually feel better and it turns out, with this fresh start, I don't mind the brush and comb so much, now. We'll see how it is when my fur starts to grow back, but for now, it's all good.

Royal Taster

Mommi finally got her butt in gear and got the latest pix off of the flashy.

I love veggies.

Here's me trying to steal some of Mommi's Brussels Sprouts away... I didn't get far... she only let me nibble on a couple of leaves from her cuttings.  She was fixin' 'em to make 60 Second Brussels Sprouts

Then the cabbage was back!  Yea!  She was finally fixin to cut this up too.

And finally there were these beet things... the greens are delicious!!

Mommi tried to inform me I was not being a Kitchen Helper.  I tried to explain that I am a royal taster.  My middle name IS Czarina ... I am royal ... the Mommies call me Princess ... I am royal.  I like to taste things... I am a taster.  So... I am a Royal Taster.

Big Head!

I helped in the kitchen again!

The Mommies brought home a HUGE head of red cabbage.  I had to investigate.

It turns out, cabbages are lovely to chew on!!  What fun!  Then the Mommies stopped laughing (and paparatsi'ing me) and set me on the floor.  When I got back to the countertop they had put the tasty cabbage head away :-(  How mean!

But then they threw down a straw for me and that as always was fun to play with!  I like to play with straws!!  Straws are PAWESOME!

It's soooo big! Or I have a dainty mouth....

Yep, a dainty mouth!

It arrived

Yesterday the new Flashy Box arrived.  Mommi made a point of telling us that this was the Broochcam but that didn't mean we could touch it.  She made a lame joke about apawsable thumbs.

Thankfully she is still figuring out the settings.  So only these two pictures were what she deemed "any good."

Me.  Sitting watching out the window from the bed

Book taking a drink

And Oh. My. Cats! Does this thing pack a punch with the flash! It is a bright thing! I figure our eyeballs will crawl away before the week is out! Knowing my Mommi she'll just create little foam eyes to stick to us. Or use googlie eyes....

Oh No! Flashy Box!

I just heard the news.

Mommi took on a design gig and got a $50 Amazon card for it. THEN she added that to the Amazon account cash she already had... and what she bought should arrive by this upcoming MONDAY....

Canon Powershot A2200 14.1 MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom (Blue)
She says it'll be the Broochcam for pix on the fly since she normally uses her DSLR, or her phone, (her mac if I was silly enough to want to be around her while she was on it) Mommi wanted something that should take good pix AND movies and be small and easy to grab quickly.

Darn it!
It was so easy to know when she'd take pix, the DSLR lives in a large zippered bag.  Ziiiiip! was the first clue, unless she managed it quietly....

Owie

This past Monday the Mommies spotted a sorta bald place on my back right hind leg.  They got concerned. The place matches my tongue width.  When discovered there were seemingly two puncture wounds but no hotness, swelling or redness. Mommy called the Doctor and after talking to the office lady that we like and trust, it was decided to let me continue to take care of it UNLESS it starts to change.  I dunno what I did wrong but it was a little pink when Mommy looked at it late Friday afternoon.  So yesterday I was taken to the Vet.  It was decided that my rough tongue kinda made matters worse.  The puncture wounds are not spider bites, and couldn't be Book's teeth -- his teeth are set wider apart. However it is in the realm of possibility that I hurt me when I was playing in the Xmas tree, or I might have gotten overzealous and bit me.  Doctor also spotted a flea on me.  DARN IT! But when he went to find it again to show the Mommies, he couldn't find it or more.  But it was his suggestion to put me and Book on a flea, heartworm and intestinal parasite combo - Revolution Brand.  It is a 6 month supply which means 3 months for us since Book will be on it too. Doc gave me a medicine for my itchy owie, but I haven't seen it, they must have forgotten it

Mommi was not able to take a picture of my itchy owie BEFORE I went in for the Doctor.  But she did do it today.

Here it is...
I kept moving around, you can't see it too well.

(Mommi here.. I'm sneaking in and adding why she doesn't know about the pills, LOVE THESE THINGS! After years of trying to pill cats the old fashion way including an actual pilling device, we discovered these when our Koss was on his last bit and was on medication, so at least his last months were not filled with a dreaded pilling. The above picture is when she got yesterday's 2 doses and today's 1st dose.)

My Brother

My brother is Book. He is three years old. When I first met him he was really shy.  But he warmed up to me.  I LOVE to jump on his head! And I wrestle with him a lot.  Mommi has not been able to catch me with the flashy box when I attack his head...

He is part Maine Coon and part Himalayan.  He only eats two flavors of Fancy Feast. That's it, but you can't give him the same flavor twice in a row.  He turns his nose up at it! Me... I love food, I'll eat just about anything.  Have you ever had mac and cheese? or what about greens? they are PAWESOME!

The Mommies are trying to get him used to the comb... but they are having slow progress -- he does something called matting... whatever I like to scratch mats, but I don't see him making any.... oh well.

Mommi did get to lint roller him.  He wasn't 100% thrilled with it, but he didn't run away at all, like he would have if she tried to do any combing.

He also gets a lot of "goopies" or "sleepy seeds" in his eyes, I do too, mine don't last as long cause I let the Mommies touch me wherever.  When Mommy or Mommi sees a goopy that needs to go away, they have to do it quick and fast... like Ninja Mommies!

This is what my brother looks like...

Bookie adores belly rubs!
